Boulder297 EFAA Project: April 5th

Jambo Boulder297!
3 posts in 1 week, it must be a Good Week. I forementioned in a previous post that details would follow about a project on April 5th at EFAA! To fulfill the prophecy, here they are:

EFAA would really like to get solid core doors hung in a lot of their apartments in their Lafayette facility, as well as have cabinets painted in a number of the apartments. We need 3 types of people on this project:
  • Door Hangers: We need skilled labors on this job. The doors need to be planed, fitted and hung. This is something I have little knowledge on, so we need a couple people who have done this before/know what they're doing.
  • Door Hanger Helpers: These are people who are skilled and handy, but have never hung doors. Hopefully we'll pair off door hangers with door hanger helpers in teams of two to rock out some door hanging. I want to say the number of doors to be hung is in the teens.
  • Painters: I hope that this is self explanatory. These are people who apply paint to objects such as cabinets or fellow volunteers.
We'll be working on Saturday, April 5th and we'll just meet at EFAA, LaFayette (located Just South of Baseline on N. Carr Road in LaFayette) at 10 am. Depending on how many volunteers we have, we'll be working 4-6 hours. Delicious kickshaws will once again be available for our consumption! Please, Let me know if you plan on coming.

Peace.
Mike

(p.s. You probably thought I forgot to plug the website in this e-mail, but you are wrong. I did not forget).

FLC Project Update

Konichiwa B-297!
I just wanted to give everyone a quick update about our work at the Family Learning Center in case you missed it! The FLC is an organization located in a heavily Hispanic area of N. Boulder dedicated to helping all ages learn. We have an ongoing relationship with the FLC and are always looking for people to help tutor and volunteer at the FLC. The Family Learning Center wanted a large swing-set removed from their playground to leave more room for playing soccer and other sports. After a contractor quoted the job at $3000, they called on Boulder297 to see if we could help out. A Boulder297 team lead by Andrew was able to dig up and tear down the swing-set last Saturday. We broke up and hauled off the concrete foundations to a local concrete plant to be recycled on Thursday, and are hoping to complete the job soon by taking the large metal beams from the swing-set to Eco-Cycle to be recycled. If you have access to a large truck and want to help haul these beams over to the recycling-center, contact Andrew or Myself, and we'll let you know if we haven't gotten them hauled off yet.
Thanks to everybody who helped out with this project, and for everybody involved with Boulder297 for loving the city well. As always, you can see what we have going on, and what our needs are on the website at www.boulder297.org

Peace.
Mike

(p.s. if anybody has some pictures from the work on Saturday, send them to me and I'll throw them up on the website)

Boulder297 UPDATE

Hey All!
I hope everybody's enjoying this sunny weather as much as I am! Here's whats going on with Boulder297:
  • First off, I have to apologize: I've been hearing from a lot of people saying "we never heard from you about the last project." The fact is, we had enough volunteers to cover that project so we never sent out an e-mail announcing it... But, don't mope long, because we do have a couple projects coming up very soon where we DO need your help!
  • Tomorrow! (Thursday, March 27th) We need some hardcore volunteers for a back breaking project! We'll be meeting at 10:30 at FLC to break concrete foundations off of some 400 lb beams and then haul them to the dump. If you have a sledgehammer, or a truck, then those things would be great to bring! Let Andrew or myself know ASAP if you can make it!
  • Mark your calendars for April 5th, for our seconded workday at EFAA. We'll be hanging doors and possibly doing some painting! More News to come soon!
The website is still alive and kicking, for all your Boulder297 needs. Check it out at www.boulder297.org!
Peace.

P.S. We're looking for sledge-hammers for tommorow, if you have one to donate to us, or to let us borrow, please let us know!

Boulder 297 March Update

Spring is finally here and we're looking forward to a busy season here at Boulder297! I'd like to remind everybody that they can read this update on the website at www.boulder297.org or subscribe to the rss feed. Our first big project with EFAA went great and there are pictures on the website! Here are some announcements:
  • Upcoming Projects: Stay posted for news on some of the exciting projects we have coming up in March. Hopefully, we'll head back to EFAA to install some doors and do some more painting. In addition, we're looking at a possible demolition project with the FLC which should be tonnes of fun, and maybe a project with BCAP!
  • Are you Artsy-Fartsy? Origins Church is having an art fund-raiser to help Walnut Place raise some money for some much needed renovations. If you'd like to contribute art for this fund raiser, you should contact Shauna at: shauna@originscommunity.com
  • Boulder297 Needs Tools! Check out our new needs page on our website (www.boulder297.org) to see what we need. Clean out your garage or take a sweet shopping spree at the hardware store! Or, just send us some money, and we'll do the shopping!
  • Updated Website: If you're sick of me plugging the website, then you should probably go check it out! It has a tonne of sweet stuff like pictures, a calendar, and a blog! I think the only thing it's lacking is an overload of animated gif's. Also, if you like webstuffs and want to help out with the website, that'd be sick awesome! let me know!
  • Do you know anything about Paving? I sure don't. But the wonderful people at EFAA would like to talk to you if you're knowledgeable about a possible project they'd like to undertake.
Well, thats your update for the month of March. I'll be sending out another e-mail as soon as I know about our next workday! Until then, this is mike, signing off.
-Mike, Boulder297
